18th STREET HOTEL ENTRANCE

THE JADE HOTEL

MIAMI BEACH. PART II

Stylistically mild in terms of what the original architect would go on to design, a new 69-room boutique hotel was created within a 2-story, heavily renovated apartment building from 1948. Widening the courtyard and axially locating the new 5-story addition transformed and elevated the feel of the property—as did the use of Florida Keystone, patinaed copper, terrazzo and clean white stucco.

BEFORE

The new primary entrance to the North is more subtle, weaving the old and new together with a curved keystone block entry—an homage to the General Electric Model Home of 1935.

Shortly after the design was approved, the development company dissolved and the property was sold. The project architect continued on with the new owner, ‘revising’ and value engineering as they saw fit.

The concept design for this project was developed while Jason was the Creative Director and co-founder of Atelier & Co. The subsequent design development and digital renderings were created by The Jason Grimes Company.
